Food Conservation at Home (Part 2)

Updated: Aug 31, 2020

This blog post is part two to one of our prior blog post. In this blog post, we will give you easy tips to save food at home.

1) Wash then freeze fresh produce to ensure preservation

Instead of keeping fresh produce in the fridge wash and freeze it immediately. This will not only preserve the fruit better, it will also keep it from getting moldy and tastes great in smoothies (especially in the hot summer months!)

2) Manage portions

Although this one seems pretty straight forward, portion management of food can be a make or break moment when it comes to reducing food wastage. Instead of making extra of a meal you think won't be finished, just make enough to suffice the needs of people being served.

3) Compost

We have already talked about this before in one of our pervious blog posts, but composting is a great idea to help limit food waste. If it gets to the point where saving food is hard for you/a big family, at least you can compost biodegradable food scraps to create a soil rich in nutrients. The soil is perfect starting your own produce garden! If you want to find out more about composting and how to start, check out our article called "Easy Tips for Food Conservation at Home"!

These are just a few tips for food conservation, an area that could be researched immensely. We hope you will apply some of these tips to your daily life, helping you save the environment, and helping food not be wasted.
